Residential design is a process that results in a new home. Architectural clients might experience confusion about this term because it represents several phases of the home design process. The process of residential design includes a contract that specifies details about design, construction and pricing obligations.
Office design is about more than creating an environment that provides all the furniture and equipment to support the various types of work tasks. Great design goes beyond the physical, practical concerns and takes into account the psychological and emotional well-being of the people who will be using the space.
While residential interior design focus is on homes, Commercial interior design conceptualize spaces for businesses. This would include hotels and lounges, restaurants and retail spaces, offices, banks, theatres, hospitals, schools, country clubs, spas, shopping malls, and everything in between.

A pedestrian word for one of the most exciting parts of the experience, programming includes getting to know you and exploring your tastes: learning what you like, what inspires you, both for who you are now, and whom you want your environment to support you in becoming. This stage includes in-person meetings, phone calls and emails. This stage is where I refine the nuts-and-bolts parameters of the project in terms of defining your specific needs and details, whether this is space planning, lifestyle needs, or personal desires. What kitchen appliances do you want? How many cabinets for dishes? What will you put in that master closet that you never had before? How does your family like to play together? What size dinner parties will you host in your new dining room? These questions and more must be answered before I can unleash my design genius and begin creating beauty for you.
In The Meeting, I got to know you. I interviewed you; we went through rounds of looking at inspiration together; I got a feel for what speaks to you, what you love. We tuned ourselves in to the aesthetic direction that is your personal station. I also looked at your current space, and your goals, and how to harmonize whatever is staying the same with whatever will be new. Now, in The Work, I apply my expertise to creating the design for you. During this phase, I show you options. I arrange one (or several) meeting(s) and present you with two well developed and different sets of ideas for your space(s). Complete with fabric and finish samples, tear sheets of furniture. Each set is assembled together in its own design tray, or I may attach these pieces to boards (hence the name design boards) or arrange them in boxes. The purpose is to have you experience the colours, shapes, weights, and textures together, and respond. For clients who want more help visualizing how all the pieces will fit together in the space.
Compared to the bustle of The Meeting & The Work & The Waiting can feel slow. During this part of the design process, we are selecting items and ordering. Expect that high-end products and fine furnishings take time to make, and deliver. The Programming and Design phases (Parts 1 and 2) are one aspect of the time the whole process takes, but there is also the time it takes to custom-make or hand-make your items, and have them shipped to you, and installed. This is what comes of wanting high-end, bespoke, artisanal. Pieces that show the hand of the maker, because they are made by human hands, artisans who spent years learning craft. This is why the product is so soulful in the end. You canÃÂ¢ÃÂÃÂt rush heart. Expect timelines to be estimates. Contractors and vendors also will have a timeline, and that timeline may stretch, due to their own suppliers, and/or the fact that they, and all of the vendors on your project, have other clients and projects they are serving.
This is it! The grand finale, the moment we are always waiting for, this phase is all about installation day. Expect that clearing your space for install day may take some advance planning. We want you to be happy, in a space that inspires and supports you to live your best life a space that invites you to come home to yourself.
